Medical Illustrator - Diffusion Studios About the Team Elsevier, part of the RELX Group, is a global leader in information and analytics for science and healthcare. Within Elsevier, the Diffusion Studios team is responsible for developing custom medical education solutions for external clients and providing support to intracompany projects. The team’s work ranges in style, topic, and audience. We collaborate with partners worldwide, translating material into more than a dozen languages. Our deliverables include standalone 2D images, interactive 3D models, infographics, whiteboard animations, 2D and 3D animations, icons, and other visual assets for government agencies, public health organizations, researchers, and patient advocacy groups. About the Role As a Medical Illustrator for Diffusion Studios, you will create visual elements that bring carefully crafted scripts to life in a relevant, audience‑appropriate, educational, and engaging way. You will meet with internal and external stakeholders to understand project goals, compose fully illustrated storyboards, revise work based on feedback, and prepare final compositions for the video editor. The role demands adaptability to diverse artistic styles, strict adherence to client specifications, and the ability to deliver high‑quality work on deadline‑driven schedules. Responsibilities Communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders to manage expectations and avoid misunderstandings. Collaborate with stakeholders on graphic design and visual development, taking specifications into account. Conduct independent research to identify and document scientifically accurate reference materials. Assist in documenting and reviewing illustrator workflows to support reliable estimation of timelines. Respond promptly and with appropriate detail to inquiries, concerns, and feedback. Organize project files to enable easy access and editing by authorized parties. Provide timely feedback to colleagues on a regular basis. Communicate with direct supervisor regularly to ensure deliverables are completed on time and per specifications. Notify supervisor in advance of deviations from standard work schedule when necessary. Serve as an ambassador for Elsevier/RELX, embodying the organization’s values in all interactions. Contribute to the sales process by consistently producing high‑quality content and building strong internal and external business relationships. Requirements A medical illustration portfolio that demonstrates education and/or professional experience, including scientifically accurate work that reveals an understanding of human anatomy/body systems and simplifies complex topics into engaging visuals. Experience with the Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Illustrator, Photoshop, and After Effects. Exceptional illustration and graphic design background, including color theory, accessibility standards, composition, and character design. Flexible artistic style capable of matching or mimicking other styles. Ability to work efficiently with limited direct oversight. Organized and task‑oriented with the ability to prioritize projects based on deadlines, complexity, and time needed to complete work to a high standard. Effective verbal and written communication in English. Receptive to feedback and client demands for change. Experience with 3D modeling, 2D/3D animation, and motion graphics is highly valued.
